About Me
My name is Lucy and I have been working within special needs education for 20 years. I have worked with pupils ages 3 - 20, as a teaching assistant, class teacher, Senior teacher and department lead. In this time I have set up and established a successful Sensory and ASC department within a special school. I have worked in several different SEND schools within the Norfolk area and specialised in developing a sensory approach to teaching. I have supported children with varying complex needs, PMLD, ASC, MSI, HI and VI and have gained a great deal of experience and an understanding of sensory teaching. I have been working as an ECT SEND facilitator and have been delivering training for many years within the schools I have worked in. I am an Engagement Model tutor and a VNET associate and this has enabled me to branch out to support other schools. My passion is developing both communication and independence for SEND learners. I love what I do, and I want to take my experience and support others in developing their practice to better support and understand pupils with special needs. I’m a sensory specialist with many ideas, both practical and supportive to further develop your school’s practice. I can adapt and create training to meet your schools needs both in mainstream and SEND. I look forward to the opportunity to working with you and your team.
What do I want to achieve?
I want to empower schools and educators to feel confident in their practice while supporting sensory learners. I understand the importance of personalising, adapting, and developing knowledge and understanding when it comes to meeting the unique needs of our pupils.
I strongly believe that every child deserves an inclusive education that caters to their individual abilities and strengths. As such, it is crucial for schools to cultivate an environment that not only recognises sensory differences but also embraces them.
Personalisation is Key:
My training is aimed to equip schools with the tools and strategies necessary to personalise learning experiences for sensory learners. I recognise that no two individuals are the same, and this principle holds true for sensory learners as well. By acknowledging and addressing the specific needs of each child, schools can create an inclusive learning environment that fosters growth and success.
Adaptation for Individual Progress:
Adaptation is another crucial aspect that I focus on during the training. I assist schools in identifying appropriate adaptations in teaching methods, materials, and resources, enabling sensory learners to actively engage in their learning journey. By tailoring curriculum delivery and instructional methods to suit the unique learning styles and sensory preferences of students, schools can create an optimal learning experience for all.
Developing Knowledge and Understanding:
I understand that knowledge and understanding are essential in supporting learners effectively.
Through my personalised, experienced based sensory training, I aim to foster a strong sense of confidence among schools and educators. I believe that by enabling schools to feel confident in their practice, I empower them to create an inclusive, sensory-friendly learning environment where every child can thrive.
